Valley of Three Crowns

(on-going project)

The Kathmandu Valley cradles three ancient cities—Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur—each a living museum where centuries-old traditions pulse through contemporary streets. Through the lens of street photography, I documented the resilient spirit of valley dwellers who have adapted to rapid urbanization while preserving their cultural essence. The images reveal how these three crown jewels of Nepal maintain their distinct identities - Kathmandu's bustling commercial energy, Bhaktapur's artisanal heritage, and Lalitpur's artistic soul - while sharing common threads of devotion, community, and endurance. In an era of rapid globalization, the Kathmandu Valley stands as a testament to cultural continuity. These photographs celebrate the architectural marvels that draw visitors from around the world and also the authentic human stories that breathe life into these timeless streets. They remind us that heritage is not preserved in museums alone, but in the daily rituals, relationships, and rhythms of those who inhabit these sacred spaces. Valley of Three Crowns is ultimately a love letter to resilience - of stones that have witnessed empires rise and fall, and of people who continue to find meaning, beauty, and connection in the midst of an ever-changing world.
